Updated
The head of the Catholic Church Pope Benedict has called for an end to conflicts in the African regions of Somalia, Sudan's western Darfur region and Burundi.
He's told pilgrims in St Peter's Square that the news from some African countries continues to be a cause of deep distress and concern.
The Pope called on local political officials and the international community to respect their commitments to end the violence.
