Contaminated blood thinner came from Chinese factories: US
Updated
The American drug maker Baxter International says its blood thinner heparin, which has been linked to scores of deaths, appears to have been deliberately contaminated with a synthetic compound.
The US Food and Drug Administration says the contaminated batches of the drug came from factories in China.
Chinese officials say the compound in question had nothing to do with the deaths
Heparin is widely used during kidney dialysis and surgery to prevent blood clots.
US health authorities say Chinese companies have also supplied contaminated heparin to Australia, New Zealand and Japan, among other countries.
