Australia, PNG business leaders meet

The Australia-Papua New Guinea Business Forum has begin in the Cairns in the far north of the Australian eastern state of Queensland.

It's the 24th such forum organised by the Australia Papua New Guinea Business Council.

The Council is an independent association of businesses based in Australia which either invest in or trade with Papua New Guinea.

Its members including major mining, banking, agricultural and service investors in Papua New Guinea, as well as smaller companies.

Around 150 politicians, busienss leaders and senior government officials are attending, as well as some delegates from other Pacific Island nations.

Henry Kila, president of the Business Council of Papua New Guinea, and says all the political tensions of the past are behind them

"In recent times the partnership certainly on the political level has been has met with some hiccups but that certainly has been restored and is starting to be redevloped in a new go forward way," he said.
