Accused sorcerers killed in PNG

Two women accused of sorcery have been tortured and burnt to death at a village outside Mt Hagen, in Western Highlands province of Papua New Guinea.

A 28-year-old mother of four and another woman aged in her 60s, were accused of using sorcery to kill a young man from the Kungnunga tribe.

The National newspaper says the women were burnt aliive in their homes, after villagers received news that a young man, who had been admitted to Mt Hagen General Hospital, died.

Villagers believed the women, using their magical powers, had had tortured him becasue he refused to give them money to buy food and clothes.

All the deceased are related through marriage.
