Guam's street lights due to go out

Guam's streetlights could be turned off from next week, because the territorial government hasn't paid it's $US12 million power bill.

Guams Consolidated Commission on Utilities, has approved a resolution that will allow it to disconnect streetlights because of the government's overdue account

The commission also agreed to subject the government to the same reconnection fees as domestic customers and in the future it will have to pay it's bill on time or be penalised.

Chairman Simon Sanchez says the commission will be telling residents when to expect their street to be left in the dark, but how long it stays that way depends on how long it takes the government to pay up.
