Australia yet to decide on court action over Japan whaling

Updated May 8, 2008 12:05:27

Australia says it hasn't ruled out taking Japan to the international court over whaling, despite reports New Zealand has abandoned its plans for legal action.

The Australian foreign minister, Stephen Smith, is making his second visit to Japan and he will again raise Australia's objections to Japanese whaling in the Southern Ocean.

The government has foreshadowed international legal action against Japan, but a spokeswoman for Mr Smith says a judgment about legal action will be made at an appropriate time.
