Fiji police hunt issuer of death threat

Police in Fiji say they are confident of finding the person who made an anonymous death threat against Australian High Commissioner James Batley, before the weekend.

The Australian High Commision says the death threat appeared to be politically motivated.

Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith says if those responsible think the threat will force a change of policy from his government, they are incorrect.

"It won't have any affect whatsoever," he said.

Fiji Police investigators are confident they'll find the person who sent the threat, based on a description from the taxi driver who delivered it to the High Commission.

Police have increased patrols and surveillance around all foreign missions in Suva.
