Australia's defence force denies mistreating Afghan detainees
Updated
The head of the Australian Defence Force says he ordered an investigation the moment allegations were made that Australian soldiers mistreated Afghan detainees.
A senior Afghan commander has called into question the treatment of four suspected Taliban members, who are believed to have been captured and detained, after the death of Australian soldier Jason Marks in an attack in the Oruzgan province.
Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston says he believes the claims are false.
He says the force has conducted a quick assessment to determine the background, and what came out of that assessment was that there was no substance to the allegations that had been made.
