Sudan lifts Khartoum curfew after rebel attack

Sudan has partially lifted a curfew in the capital Khartoum following an attack by rebel forces.

Africa Correspondent Andrew Geoghegan reports the Sudanese government says it has repulsed an assault on Khartoum by the rebel group, Justice and Equality Movement.

A curfew in the city has been partially lifted, but the government remains on high alert.

It has broken off diplomatic relations with its neighbour Chad, accusing the country of helping the rebels launch their attack from the Darfur region.

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has indicated that he may yet retaliate against Chad.

However, both Chad and the rebels deny they are working together.
