The price of export benchmark Thai rice has stabilised to around $US1,000 a tonne.

Traders say the price of Thai rice is likely to remain firm over the next few weeks when exporters start buying the food staple to fill an order from Malaysian for 200,000 tonnes.

Thai domestic rice prices also rebounded after slight falls last week, lifted by the government's verbal intervention after it said it planned to buy rice from farmers directly at fixed prices if domestic prices fell to an inappropriate level.
