Lawyers up pressure on Pakistan government over judges
Updated
Pakistan's Supreme Court Bar Association has informed the new coalition government that it would hold a major protest on June 10 to champion the restoration of dismissed judges.
The coalition is already in danger of breaking up over the issue after the second largest party in the alliance withdrew its members from the cabinet, a little over six weeks after being sworn in.
The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) says it would continue to support prime minister Yusuf Gilani's government on an issue by issue basis, but says it backs the lawyers' plans to begin agitating.
The judges including chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, were dismissed by President Pervez Musharraf last November after he feared they could rule unlawful his own re-election in October by the outgoing parliament while he was still army chief.
