Australia's Batley pulls Fiji appearance over threats
Updated
Australia's high commissioner to Fiji, James Batley, has reportedly declined to be the main guest at a celebration by Fiji's prominent Adi Cakabau School due to recent death threats.
The Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee says Mr Batley cancelled this weekend's appearance at the event.
Fiji police have confirmed they are still investigating the written threats.
The Fijilive website says the high commissioner's absence did not dampen the festivities at Sukuna Park in the centre of the capital, Suva.
Suva mayor Ratu Peni Volavola stood in as the main guest, and was joined by teachers, students, parents, friends and former scholars to mark the all-girl school's 60 years in existence.
The event starts five months of celebrations with various activities planned for each month.
