NZ lawyer to oversee Fiji elections

New Zealand lawyer Felicity Heffernan has been appointed Fiji's new Supervisor of Elections.

The Constitutional Office Commission, has confirmed Ms Heffernan has accepted the job and will oversee the process of the promised elections, set down for March next year.

Ms Heffernan currently works for the Compliance and Law Department in the New Zealand government, and will take up her new positon in July.

Fiji's Chairman of the Commission Rashi Ram, denies Ms Heffernen takes on the role at the last minute when most of the hard work has been completed

"It's already about nine months to go till the election, so there is still a lot of work to be done," he said.
