Former Taiwan president sues defence minister
Updated
Taiwan's former president Chen Shui-bian has filed a libel suit against the island's new defence minister.
The minister, Chen Chao-min, is being sued for $US325,000dollars for suggesting the former head of state had staged his own shooting on the eve of elections in 2004.
Defence Minister Chen is part of the new Kuomintang government of President Ma Ying-jeou.
Chen Shui-bian was slightly injured in the 2004 shooting, as was his Vice President Annette Lu.
The pair went on to win the presidential poll by a narrow majority.
