Food aid for Burma cyclone victims
Updated
The Royal Australian Air Force has delivered two helicopters to the United Nations in Thailand, which will be used to get much needed food aid to victims of Cyclone Nargis in Burma.
Our South East Asia correspondent Karen Percy reports the C-17 touched down with its cargo late last night after an 11 and a half hour flight from Johannesburg.
The helicopters were taken apart to fit inside the cargo plane.
They'll be unloaded and reassembled over the next two days.
Then the helicopters will be used by the UN's World Food Programme to deliver aid to hard-to-reach parts of the Irrawaddy Delta.
The programme currently has just one helicopter at its disposal in Burma, where an estimated 2.4 million people are still in need of basic supplies.
Cyclone Nargis hit Burma on May 2, killing at least 134,000 people.
