China, Taiwan set date for new talks
Updated
China and Taiwan are set to resume official talks that have been suspended for more than a decade.
From Beijing, Stephen McDonell reports this week's visit to China by the Chairman of Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang has paved the way for official talks between old Cold War enemies.
Xinhua news agency has reported that a Taiwanese Government delegation has been invited to Beijing in two weeks time - the talks in June will cover the introduction of weekend charter flights between Taiwan and the mainland, as well as increased travel to Taiwan by mainland tourists.
The recent election in Taiwan of President Ma Ying-jeou has led to a thawing of relations between Beijing and Taipei.
This week's visit was the first high-level meeting since nationalists fled to Taiwan in 1949 after losing the civil war to the Communists.
