A military helicopter has rescued 40 people from a remote village 16 days after China's earthquake.

Their rescue is the latest in a string of extraordinary survival stories that have emerged from the horror of the May 12 quake in Sichuan province.

The earthquake has killed over 68,000 people and displaced more than 15 million others.

Those in Sichuan province still face the danger of potentially devastating floods with steady rain falling across the quake zone.

For rescuers the most pressing priority is the draining of a so-called quake lake.

The massive body of water sits above millions of people and was formed after the huge quake triggered landslides and blocked a river.
