The Solomon Islands prime minister, Derek Sikua, says improving relations between Taiwan and China will be good for his country.

Solomn Islands Broadcasting quotes Dr Sikua as saying a strong diplomatic connection between Taipei and Beijing is the best approach to defuse any form of political or military confrontation between the two sides

Dr Sikua says a strong mutual respect for each other will provide dynamic trade development benefits to which Solomon Islands would indirectly become a beneficiary

He was responding to questions raised over concern that the shift in policy by the new Government of Taiwan to establish a strong trade relations with China might jeopardize the current relationship between Taiwan and Solomon Islands.
