China attempts to remove radioactive sources from quake lake
Updated
Chinese authorities in the devastated south-west of the country say they are attempting to remove almost a hundred radioactive "sources" downstream from a rising "earthquake lake".
It's feared the landslide barrier that's created the lake near Mianyang City could collapse, inundating populated areas.
Local environmental protection officials say moving the radioactive sources is now a top priority.
The radioactive sources haven't been identified, but previous state media reports said they could be from machines used to test defects in the construction of bridges or boats, or from X-ray machines.
