Aide to Afghan militant commander freed after years in US custody
Updated
Afghanistan has freed a man held in US-run prisons for six years.
Ghairat Baheer, a close aide to Gulbuddin Hekmatyar -- a militant leader wanted by Washington for his links to an ongoing insurgency, was handed over to Afghan custody 10 days ago.
Mr Baheer denies any recent link to Hekmatyar, the leader of the Hezb-i Islamic Party.
He was held in various prisons and spent several years in Bagram Air Base, the main US-run military air field north of Kabul.
He told reporters his time in jail was bitter and painful.
