SKorean activists urge NKorea food assistance
Updated
A group of South Korean activists has urged Seoul to provide around 600,000 tons in emergency food assistance to North Korea, warning its citizens are on the verge of starvation.
The activists' appeal comes a day after the government said it had received a letter from the United Nations World Food Program asking for food aid to be sent to Pyongyang.
Seoul has in the past been a key food donor to North Korea, but has now insisted Pyongyang make a formal request before providing help.
