Fiji editor laments PM's views on the media
Updated
The Fiji Times' editor-in-chief, Netani Rika, says it is unfortunate that the interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, feels the media should be regulated.
In an editorial, he says Commodore Bainimarama claims the media needs to be pro-Fiji and be regulated.
He says the interim leader doesn't realise that it is actually more dangerous if the media paints a false picture of what is happening in the country.
Commodore Bainimarama says the government doesn't want to gag the media or stop media freedom.
But he says the government does want someone other than publishers and editors to look at the media.
He says talks with the media council will continue because of the need to make the media pro-Fiji.
