Bank to provide loan to rebuild China after quake
Updated
The Bank of China will provide $US3.6 billion in loans to help finance reconstruction after the Sichuan earthquake.
Cement producer Conch Cement will use some of the funds to set up two plants in the quake hit southwestern region to increase output.
The company's executive director, Guo Jingbin, says the plants would increase production of cement to 12 million tonnes by 2010.
Experts have predicted that around 100 million tonnes of cement will be needed in Sichuan and surrounding areas in the next three to five years to rebuild.
Another loan has been given to steel maker Panzhihua Iron and Steel to finance its infrastructure investment projects for rebuilding following the earthquake.
