A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 has hit the Solomon Islands.
Solomon Islands' disaster authorities have confirmed the early morning underwater earthquake has caused little if any damage.
The quake struck the Makira Province, around 180 kilometres south east of the capital, Honiara.
The Solomon Islands National Disaster Management Council says authorities on Makira Island have not issued a tsunami warning.
A magnitude 8 quake in April last year triggered a tsunami that killed more than 50 people in western Solomon Islands and displaced thousands of people.
