Burma comedian reportedly arrested

Burma's most famous comedian, Zaganar, is reported to have been arrested at his home in Rangoon.

His relatives say it is not clear why he was detained.

Cash and electronic equipment are also said to have been seized.

The comedian has been leading local deliveries of aid to survivors of Cyclone Nargis, which devastated the Irrawaddy delta early last month.

Meanwhile, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations says a 200-strong team of aid experts from ASEAN states and the UN has started deploying in the delta region.

The move comes a day after the United States gave up trying to convince Burma's military government to allow US navy ships stationed off the coast to deliver aid supplies.

The United Nations estimates that of the 2.4 million survivors in need of food and shelter, more than a million have received no foreign aid.
