Fire jeopardises WA gas supply
Updated
Western Australia's gas supplies have been thrown into jeopardy with confirmation it will take months before a major gas plant off the Pilbara is repaired.
The plant on Veranus Island was extensively damaged by fire on Tuesday.
Plant operator Apache Energy believes it will be months before it can get the plant back online.
Supplies to the state have already been cut by one-third.
Some of Western Australia's biggest companies have been forced to shut down their operations as a result of the plant's closure.
Householders are already being urged to reduce the length of their showers.
Engineers are working to repair the damage, but they say it could take months to source the necessary equipment.
