Australia boosts its aid to Philippines education

The Australian government is providing 13 million Australian dollars in aid for the Philippine education system.
Shirley Escalate reports from Manila the funds will be used to reform the basic education sector in the Philippines.
The Education Secretary Jesli Lapus says the aid package from Australia will focus on developing school resources and the management of teachers.
Australian Ambassador to Manila Rod Smith clarifies that the funds will be released subject to performance, against agreed benchmarks.
It will be derived from the Australian Agency for International Development and could increase in the next four years.
The Australian government's official development assistance to the Philippines went up by nine percent this year, to more than 109 million Australian dollars.
