WTO rejects US alcohol complaint against India
Updated
The World Trade Organisation has rejected a complaint brought by the United States against India over duties on alcoholic beverages.
The US had claimed that the layers of custom duties imposed by India on wines and spirits was in breach of international trade rules.
It says the additional duties were as high as 550 per cent of the value of the product.
But the WTO's dispute panel says the United States has failed to establish that the additional duty is inconsistent with India's WTO commitments.
