A Taiwanese fishing boat has sunk after colliding with a Japanese coastguard vessel.

The incident happened off the disputed Senkaku Islands - known as the Diaoyutai Islands by Chinese - in the East China Sea.

Japanese authorities say the boats collided when the fishermen took a zigzag course to avoid the approaching coastguard vessel.

One member of the fishing crew was injured.

All have been detained.

The Senkaku Islands are claimed by Japan, China and Taiwan.
