Indonesia says no plans to reintroduce coal tax
Updated
Indonesia says it has no plans to reintroduce a tax on coal exports, saying such a move could discourage investment.
An energy and minerals ministry official, Simon Sembiring, has been quoted as saying Indonesia already benefits from a 13.5 per cent royalty on coal.
He also says all contracts with coal miners have been "nailed down," and can't be changed unilaterally.
The government has been under recent pressure from some legislators to reimpose the export duty to secure supply for the domestic market.
