Taiwan, China to resume formal talks
Updated
A senior negotiator from Taiwan has arrived in Beijing to resume formal talks between the two sides, which were suspended more than a decade ago.
Chiang Pin-kun is scheduled to hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Chen Yunlin on Thursday and will reportedly meet President Hu Jintao on Friday.
The talks in Beijing are expected to focus on establishing regular direct flights between Taiwan and China, and the allowing of up to 3,000 Chinese tourists to visit Taiwan daily.
Taiwan's new president, Ma Ying-jeou, has pledged to improve relations with China and is pushing for the creation of a peace treaty.
