Hong Kong moves to stop spread of bird flu
Updated
Authorities in Hong Kong are beginning a mass poultry cull in a bid to halt the spread of the H5N1 bird flu virus among the territory's many markets.
The deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu was found at a poultry stall in one of Hong Kong's many so-called wet markets last weekend, prompting the slaughter of more than 2,500 birds.
But officials say the virus has since spread, and a mass cull is now necessary as a precaution.
Officials have not said whether any people have been infected.
