UK police investigate al-Qaeda document lapse

British police have launched an investigation after top-secret documents containing the latest government intelligence on al-Qaeda were left on a suburban train.
The documents belonged to a very senior intelligence official working in the government's cabinet office.
A passenger on the train from Waterloo station in London spotted an envelope abandoned on a seat.
He handed the documents to the BBC.
The documents are classified as "UK top secret", and is the latest government intelligence assessment on al-Qaeda.
The papers are so sensitive that every page is numbered and marked "for UK, US, Canadian and Australian eyes only".
Police are investigating the security breach.
