Fears over horse import costs following horse flu outbreak
Updated
There are predictions of a dramatic leap in the cost of importing horses into Australia, after a report into the outbreak of equine influenza.
The outbreak last year cost the Australian horse racing industry hundreds of millions of dollars.
A final report into the outbreak blames the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service.
One of Australia's largest exporters of performance and pleasure horses, Peter Toft says it'll soon be prohibitive to import horses - because of the bureaucracy that'll be required under recommendations in the report.
More than 350 people across eastern Australia are expected to join a law suit seeking compensation for the effects of the outbreak.
