Vanuatu land conference continues
Updated
A two day Pacific land policy conference is continuing in Vanuatu.
The Making Land Work conference has attracted 80 delegates from across the Pacific including government officials and academics.
Australia's Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance, Bob McMullan, is there to discuss Australia's election pledge of $US50 million, to help Pacific nations improve their land policies.
He says regional governments are under pressure because of new and competing interests relating to land ownership which may conflict with old customs that have been in place for generations.
He says customary land ownership will be retained, but discussion centre around how land owners can get extra income and enhance livelihood from the land by co operating with commercial development.
