Taiwan captain returns home from Japan
Updated
The captain of a Taiwanese fishing boat that was rammed and sunk by a Japanese coastguard off a disputed island chain has returned home.
Ho Hung-yi and his passengers and crew were rescued by the coastguards and taken to Japan.
Mr Ho maintains the coastguards rammed into his vessel, an accusation denied by Japan.
The incident triggered protests outside Japan's de facto embassy in Taiwan.
Japan, China and Taiwan jointly claim the uninhabited islands in the East China Sea known as the Senkaku in Japanese and the Diaoyu in Chinese.
The claims to the islands have intensified in recent years after potentially-rich gas reserves were found nearby.
