At least 15 guards reported killed in Afghan jailbreak

A member of the provincial council in the southern Afghanistan city of Kandahar says at least 15 security guards have been killed during a Taliban attack on a prison.
Most of the 1,000 inmates including several hundred Taliban prisoners have escaped.
Large numbers of security forces including those of the US-trained Afghan national army had been deployed to search vehicles in the city.
Authorities have also launched a probe to find out if any government officials were involved in the commando-style attack by several dozen Taliban fighters under cover of darkness.
A Taliban spokesman says all Taliban former prisoners have arrived at safe destinations.
He says the attack started with two suicide attacks, including a water tanker packed with explosives ramming the prison gates.
Gunmen on motorbikes armed with rocket propelled grenades and assault rifles then stormed the mud-built compound and freed the prisoners.
