Australia's PM inspects aid project in Aceh

Australia's Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and his wife Therese Rain have inspected rebuilding work at the scene of the devastating 2004 tsunami in Indonesia's Aceh Province in Northern Sumatra.

Mr Rudd promised an extra fifty million Australian dollars in aid to the country, on top of the billion dollars contributed by the previous Howard Government.

From Banda Aceh, Greg Jennett reports three and a half years ago, eight-hundred kilometres of Aceh's coastline was inundated and an estimated one hundred and sixty thousand people died in the ocean surge.

Banda Aceh's Ulee Lheue Islamic School lost all but a dozen of its three hundred students.

Kevin Rudd and Therese Rain have attended the inauguration of the school, rebuilt with half a million dollars of Australian money.

The Prime Minister is also visiting an aquaculture project before returning to Australia overnight.
