PNG appeals for Paralympics wild cards
Updated
The Papua New Guinea Disabled Sports Association has appealed to send two more athletes to the Paralympics, in Beijing, in September.
Runner Francis Kompaon qualified on merit in 2006, and has been training with the national squad in Garoka.
An appeal for wildcard entries for powerlifter Kupini Lewa and track and field athletes, Jerry Calal and Joyleen Jefferey, has failed.
PNG Paralympics Games Committee president, Bernard Chan told Radio Australia Sport they've appealed to the international body, and will know in July.
"We have only got one qualifier, we are writing to the International Paralympic Committee to ask for two more wild cards, a male and female," he said.
Mr Chan says the Association will ask for ministerial assistance with the appeal.
