New standards for Australian aviation

Updated June 17, 2008 12:14:22

The Australian Government has set nation-wide standards and qualifications for pilots and other workers in the aviation industry.

The Government hopes the new guidelines will provide consistency and help overcome pilot shortages.

The aviation regulator CASA, and the Defence Department, have agreed on standards to make it easier for pilots to move between civilian and defence operators.

It will also be easier for overseas students to train in Australia.
