Solomons police to question injured RAMSI officer
Updated
The Solomon Islands police force is sending investigators to Australia, to question a RAMSI policeman injured during a fatal car crash at the weekend.
The accident killed a 26-year-old Solomon Islands' nurse who was walking home from church in Honiara when she was hit by a RAMSI vehicle.
It was being driven by an off-duty Samoan police officer serving in the Australian-led Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI).
A passenger, also a RAMSI officer and from Samoa, was airlifted to hospital in the north eastern Australian city of Brisbane, in a critical condition.
Solomons' police commissioner, Peter Marshall, says the injured man is a vital witness in the case
"We will be sending a senior Solomon Islands police force investigator to Brisbane to interview him," he said.
"That would probably occur well after the surgery has taken place.
He is a very important witness in relation to the total picture of what happened.
"We're also waiting for the medical officer's report in terms of his examination of the deceased in terms of the cause of death."
