Tonga MP faces eight murder-related charges
Updated
Tongan pro-democracy MP, Isileli Pulu, has faced court on eight murder-related charges and one count of arson.
He was arrested after the riots of November 2006, when crowds demanding democratic reforms rampaged in the capital Nuku'alofa, torching buildings and looting businesses.
The charges against Mr Pulu and two others relate to the eight deaths in the Shoreline Office building, which was set alight during the violence.
All have pleaded not guilty.
The case is expected to run for up to three weeks.
