Australia working to finalise soldier suicide damages
Updated
Australia's defence minister, Joel Fitzgibbon, says there is no legal framework in place for compensation to be made to the parents of four soldiers who committed suicide after being bullied.
The parents have been seeking payment following the deaths of their children for several years.
The government is working towards finalising the matter.
But Mr Fitzgibbon says the process is being hampered by the fact that the soldiers have no dependents.
"Of course if these young men had been married and had children there would be very quickly compensation payments go to the spouse and or the children," he said.
"In these cases, there is no spouse, no children."
