Assailants fire on Pakistan troops on Kashmir border
Updated
Pakistan's defence ministry says four soldiers were killed, and three were wounded, when unknown attackers fired on a Pakistani army patrol on the disputed Kashmir border on Thursday.
Major General Athar Abbas says the firing from the Indian side of the border, across the Line of Control, continued for nearly four hours.
He says search parties were sent to hunt the "unknown miscreants" -- signalling that it's uncertain the Indian army was involved.
Nuclear-armed India and Pakistan have fought three wars, two over Kashmir.
Violence has sharply declined in Kashmir since they launched a peace process in 2004.
