Leaked NZ prisoner file investigated
Updated
An investigation is underway in New Zealand into how a confidential government file, containing details about dangerous prisoners, was left on a park bench.
Our New Zealand correspondent Kerri Ritchie reports that the file contains 30 pages of information about prisoners including home addresses and parole conditions.
A man found it on a seat near the High Court in Auckland.
Instead of contacting police, he showed it to a media commentator.
Corrections Department chief executive, Barry Matthews, says a staff member has admitted losing the file.
"We're looking obviously at what we can do to ensure by way of immediate steps that we can prevent it ever happening again," he said.
The Corrections Department is still waiting for the file to be returned.
It's concerned the information may have been copied.
