French Polynesia wants compensation over French army downsizing

French Polynesia's President Gaston Tong Sang says he will seek compensation from the French Government, after this week's announcement of significant cuts to the French military, including garrisons in the country's Pacific territories.
Oceania Flash reports President Tong Sang is in Paris this week attending a major tourism industry conference.
The French president, Nicholas Sarkozy, says the cut in troop numbers will take place gradually between 2011 and 2015.
It's estimated that the number military personnel stationed in French Polynesia will be reduced by more than 1,000.
