Indian army clashes with militants in Kashmir

Updated June 20, 2008 22:08:51

Indian troops have killed four militants in two separate gun battles in Kashmir.

The Indian army says one fight took place along the ceasefire line dividing the state between India and Pakistan.

The clashes came a day after four Pakistani soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire with unknown attackers along the ceasefire line.

India accuses Pakistan of arming and funding militants, who launched an insurgency in Kashmir in 1989.

Islamabad denies the charge.
