Olympic torch on relay though Lhasa
Updated
The Olympic torch has started a relay leg through Tibet's capital Lhasa, amid heavy security, three months after riots there against Chinese rule.
Paramilitary police are keeping a close watch on the route that's been cordoned off from the public.
Stephen McDonell reports from Lhasa truckloads of riot police can be seen on the streets here in preparation for any anti-Chinese government protests.
Organisers of the Tibetan leg of the torch relay say they expect today's events will go off without disruption.
Exile groups had called for the torch not to travel to Tibet after the violent rebellion and subsequent crackdown in March.
The government in Beijing has been determined to use the torch relay to show that Tibet is an inalienable part of China.
