Farming meeting calls for more small-scale farming facilities
Updated
An international farming group is urging countries to step up domestic food production by providing more facilities to small-scale farmers.
Members of La Via Campesina, which represents millions of small-scale farmers around the world are meeting in Indonesia's capital Jakarta.
The five day international conference, which began over the weekend will focus on the rights of agricultural producers and the global food crisis.
Paul Nicholson, of La Via Campesina says extensive farming, food chains controlled by transnational companies and food market liberalisation has contributed to the current food crisis.
He says food trade has destroyed the capacity of food production locally.
