Fiji government refuses ABC delegation visit

Updated June 24, 2008 19:51:13

Fiji's interim government has refused to allow a delegation from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation into the country.

Our Pacific correspondent, Campbell Cooney, reports the group is being led by the ABC's director of International operations, Murray Green, and includes program makers, reporters and production staff.

Next week it leaves for American Samoa to attend the Festival of Pacific Arts, but it had also scheduled visits to Pacific Island nations enroute, to hold audience feedback seminars, and to meet government officials and ministers along the way.

Fiji was included, but Mr Green has confirmed its Ministry of Information, has refused to issue visas for him and those travelling with him.

At this stage no reason has been given for the refusal.
